A 1937 Columbia “Color Rhapsody” holiday cartoon restored for modern viewing and mastered in 8K at 60 frames per second. Produced at Charles Mintz’s Screen Gems/Charles Mintz Productions and released by Columbia Pictures, the short is credited to director-story man Ben Harrison with music by Joe DeNat and animation by Manny Gould. The story follows a toyless orphan who finds a broken soldier doll; that night the toys appeal to Santa, who brings the boy a Christmas he’ll never forget—an archetypal sentimental plot in Columbia’s Color Rhapsody line of one-shot musical-fantasy shorts from the 1930s.
